Arkham Horror: Dunwich Horror Expansion

Dunwich Horror adds 8 Investigators, 4 Ancient Ones, 15 Item cards, 25 Unique Item cards, 21 Spell cards, 11 Skill cards, 5 Ally cards, 4 Condition cards, 28 Monster tokens, 36 Mythos cards and 32 Gate cards to the base set. It also adds new location cards, for a total of 14 cards at each location instead of 7. Dunwich Horror also adds many new mechanics. Players can take a train to Dunwich (a new board that is placed on the end of the Arkham board), which adds 9 new locations and 2 new outer worlds to the game. Players reduced to 0 stamina or sanity have the option of drawing from the Injury or Madness deck, acquiring permanent handicaps, rather than losing half their items and clue tokens. Gates are no longer permanently sealed (a popular house rule in the base game). Condition cards provide benefits to all players may be activated. And, of course, the Dunwich Horror itself - not as strong as the Ancient Ones, yet far stronger than any other monster in the game. This expansion also features revised rules and an FAQ that addresses many of the perceived faults of the base game. Replacement cards are provided for items and spells that are subject to errata.

The Dunwich Horror Expansion is a terrific add-on to the Arkham Horror box set. Larger than any of the previous expansion, Dunwich adds more characters, more challenges, more bad guys and more... everything. It essentially doubles the size of the game.

Dunwich is also very easy to follow & to add-on, making it (oddly) the least complex of all the expansions. Don't be daunted by the size of the box - unlike its predecessors, it adds very little in core rules or complicated mechanics. All Dunwich does is expand the playing area and add more fun into the mix.

A great addition to a favorite game. Highly recommended.

This Homer Simpson version of the fabulously fun Operation game is sure to have players young and old in stitches (well, not literally, we hope). Homer is laid out on the table and amateur surgeons must take turns to operate on Homer and remove a part from his "funatomy" as directed by the playing cards. Homer’s ailments are unique and range from Bowler’s Thumb, where surgeons must withdraw a bowling pin from his digit, to Pot Belly, where a saucepot is lodged in his gut. A successful extraction earns the surgeon a significant chunk of change. However, if doctors accidentally brush the tweezers against the metal edge during surgery, a buzzer goes off and Homer’s nose lights up as he screams or says one of several trademark phrases, such as "Doh!" or "This is not good!" That’s when the big guns are called in. The player holding the Specialist card for that operation gets to attempt the procedure again—but this time for double the cash. When all of Homer’s organs have been removed, the doctor hoarding the most money is declared the winner. The biggest problem with this particular make of the game is that the rods used to move the ball are made of a metal that is not nearly strong enough to control the ball with any precision. As the ball starts to drop between them, instead of being able to bring the rods together and raise the ball back up, the rods are too soft and bend around the ball.

Lesson learned... try before you buy.

This is more challenging than the original Clue or Cluedo, but you can only play about one hundred times if you have a good memory, or unlimited times if you have a bad memory.

The game play is fun, and there is a challenge to it, but the pieces are quite difficult to put together, fortunately, you only have to put it together once.
